MEET WENDY WANG

IMG_6294_edited.jpg

"For eight years, I have worked as a caregiver, supporting seniors and individuals with daily living needs. As a businesswoman, nonprofit executive and board member, and community and youth advocate, I have worked to turn community needs into REAL action.

Most importantly, I believe every resident deserves a seat at the table and a meaningful voice in the decisions that shape our city."

Rooted in Community
Focused on People
Ready to Lead

22 Years of San Gabriel Resident | Small Business Owner | 8 Years of Frontline Caregiving | SEIU Local 2015 Member | Former Competitive Athlete | Nonprofit Executive and Board Member | Community and Youth Advocate

Wendy Wang came to the United States at age six and was raised by a hardworking single mother. For nearly 23 years, San Gabriel has been her home—the community that shaped her values and inspired her commitment to public service.

With experience in small business, nonprofit leadership, and eight years of home care work, Wendy understands the everyday challenges facing local families. She is running for San Gabriel City Council to bring greater transparency, accountability, and responsive, resident-centered leadership to City Hall.

A FRESH VOICE FOR SAN GABRIEL

Wendy’s story reflects the experiences of many San Gabriel families: an immigrant child raised by a hardworking single mother, a student educated in San Gabriel local public schools, a small business owner, an 8 year caregiver, 8 years former competitive athlete, a nonprofits leader, and a community advocate.

She understands the challenges residents face, and she deeply appreciates the opportunities this community has provided. Wendy is ready to bring a fresh voice, new energy, and truly resident-centered leadership to the San Gabriel City Council.

ROOTED IN SAN GABRIEL

Growing up, Wendy helped her family sell DVDs, VCRs, and electronics at the Rosemead Swap Meet. This early experience taught her the importance of hard work, financial responsibility, and perseverance. It also gave her a firsthand understanding of the effort and sacrifice immigrant and working families make to build a better life.

Wendy attended local public schools, including McKinley Elementary School, Jefferson Middle School, and Gabrielino High School. She spent eight years as an athlete, playing competitive Basketball and competing in the Shot Put. Her first job, earliest volunteer experiences, and first involvement in community activities all began in the City of San Gabriel and the surrounding area.

These formative experiences created a deep and lasting connection between Wendy and San Gabriel’s families, schools, neighborhoods, and small businesses.

EIGHT YEARS OF FRONTLINE CAREGIVING EXPERIENCE

For eight years, Wendy has served seniors, people with disabilities, and their families as a caregiver through the Los Angeles County In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Program. She is also a proud member of SEIU Local 2015.

Through her caregiving work, Wendy has supported people who rely on in-home care to remain safe, maintain their independence, and continue living in their own homes. She understands firsthand the physical, emotional, and financial pressures experienced by caregivers, seniors, people with disabilities, and the families who depend on these essential services.

This frontline experience has shaped Wendy’s understanding of public service. She knows that decisions made at City Hall have real and direct consequences for seniors, caregivers, people with disabilities, working families, and residents living on fixed incomes.

Wendy believes true leadership begins by listening to the voices that are too often overlooked.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP

Wendy has professional experience in media communications, public affairs, educational programs, advertising strategy, business consulting, and community engagement. Over the years, she has worked with local residents, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and cultural groups to connect resources, encourage collaboration across communities, and turn shared ideas into meaningful action.

Through her nonprofit leadership and work with local businesses, Wendy has focused on building bridges among residents, businesses, community organizations, and government. She believes strong communities are built through listening, collaboration, and practical support for local businesses and working families.

Wendy believes City Hall should listen proactively, communicate clearly, simplify processes, and provide practical support to residents and local businesses.

Her professional and community leadership experience, supported by business and finance training through Harvard Business School Online, The Wharton School Online, and Wall Street Prep, has strengthened her ability to build partnerships, connect resources, and turn ideas into results.

COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP IN ACTION

Wendy believes community leadership is not simply about attending meetings or making promises. It means showing up, listening carefully, building partnerships, and turning compassion into meaningful action.

Her community service has included support for seniors and caregivers, families and immigrant communities, youth leadership and educational opportunities, veterans and first responders, environmental and volunteer initiatives, small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and cultural groups.

Wendy has helped organize and advance community programs focused on disaster recovery, mental health, public safety, emergency preparedness, environmental responsibility, youth development, and senior wellness.

She has also worked to connect businesses and nonprofit organizations with communities in need, including helping provide health-related resources and air purifiers to seniors and community organizations.

Her goal has always been to build more bridges—between residents and government, across generations and cultures, and among organizations that share a commitment to serving the community.

WHY WENDY IS RUNNING

Wendy is running for San Gabriel City Council because she believes residents deserve a city government that listens first, communicates clearly, manages public funds responsibly, and remains genuinely accountable to the people it serves.

Her campaign is centered on four priorities:

- TRANSPARENT AND ACCOUNTABLE GOVERNMENT

- PUBLIC SAFETY

- QUALITY OF LIFE

- SMALL BUSINESSES AND WORKING FAMILIES
